Psychiatrically Complex Children & Adolescents
The Academy provides for children/adolescents who present more complex psychiatric diagnoses or deficits in development. A greater staff to resident ratio and a less stimulating environment is provided. Psychiatric monitoring, on-campus nursing services, individual therapy, behavioral management, and crisis intervention assist the resident to better manage and cope with their symptoms.
Who will benefit from the Program ?
The Academy programs for the psychiatrically complex child/adolescent (male and female) are designed to provide a stable environment for those who otherwise may require a chronic pattern of community crisis intervention and inpatient hospitalization to manage reactions to their symptoms. The on-campus school eliminates the interruption of school attendance during the managing of a crisis.
Residents who are appropriate for this program may be diagnosed in the areas of:
• Schizophrenia disorders
• Psychotic disorders
• Asperger's disorder
• Traumatic stress disorders
• Pervasive developmental disorder
• Schizotypal disorders
• Anxiety disorders of childhood
