Evaluation Services

Adolescents may be placed at Wyalusing for evaluation purposes. The length of stay for an evaluation is 30 days.

The youth or child is placed on a unit appropriate for his or her age, social developmental skills, and gender. Residents are identified to staff as residents placed for evaluation and the highly structured program with group and individual therapy provided helps to identify treatment needs. The resident responding to group structure, daily expectations and working towards daily goals provides information that helps to identify their strengths and weakness leading to treatment recommendations. The staff involves the resident in individual, group, social and recreational activities as a means of observing how each resident handles group living and social situations.

The residents attend school daily and are observed as to how they respond and adjust to the structured classroom setting as well as the various vocational programs offered at Wyalusing. Their academic achievement levels are assessed and recommendations made based on past programming and present performance.here are a variety of multidisciplinary assessments completed during the evaluation placement. Each resident is evaluated across the following need areas by a designated professional staff or consultant:

• Psychiatric
• Psychological
• Educational Development
• Group Living/Recreation
• Medical
• Family/Social Environmental

Also available, when clinically indicated, are assessments in the areas of chemical dependency, speech/hearing, and neuropsychological of the comprehensive evaluation are presented at an initial clinical staffing with recommendations from the multi-disciplinary team for follow-up services. The child placed for residential treatment will have prepared for them an individualized treatment plan, focusing on treatment goals and objectives identified by the evaluation process.
