Clinicare Hires Neuro-Psychologist

Clinicare is excited to announce the addition of a neuro-psychologist, Dr. Judy Davis to our treatment team.  Dr. Davis will work with all Clinicare residential treatment programs completing neuro-psychological evaluations. Additionally, she will be instrumental in consultations and trainings.  Every child that enters a Clinicare RTC will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Davis if the need is present.  Please speak with an Academy staff for details.

Dr. Judy Davis is a clinical neuro-psychologist who has worked with children, adolescents, and families for over 20 years. She holds a Bachelors degree in Education from UW-Madison and a Masters in Business Management. Her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology included a focus on the growth and developmental issues of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Dr. Davis also participated in extensive training and supervision in the field of neuro-psychology; this work included training at the Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, California.

As an educator, psychologist, and clinician, Dr. Davis worked with youth for more than 20 years in a variety of settings. The best way to keep young people out of trouble is to teach them in ways that meet their learning styles, developmental needs and facilitate effective decision-making. Support for this type of intervention is best addressed via the brain. Almost 95% of the adjudicated youth court-ordered to treatment programs have unrecognized brain injuries, learning disabilities, and mental health diagnoses. Many of these youth began demonstrating significant behavioral difficulties by the second and third grade. Often, families with their own struggles are unable to offer advocacy, structure or supervision to effectively intervene and support learning. As learning becomes less successful, their behaviors escalate and eventually involve them in the judicial system.

Brain research documents evidence that decisions made in the moment are often the result of current emotions and environmental stimulation. Youths make 98% of their decisions “in-the moment”.       

Brain-based assessments and intervention modalities create the secure possibility of improved decision making, problem solving, emotional and behavioral regulation for our clients, for the rest of their lives. Brain-based intervention re-trains the brain to make better (not impulsive) decisions through direct, individualized treatment that improves the executive, cognitive, regulatory, information processing and learning functions of the brain. The process of assessment and re-training eliminates non-productive thinking patterns created by trauma, AODA, ineffective processing, mood struggles, anxiety, etc., which, in effect allow for new opportunities for youth.
